The 13th Member - Prince Kyunhyun
Cho Kyuhyun (born February 3, 1988), more commonly credited as Kyuhyun, is a Korean singer, dancer, and the youngest member of Super Junior. He is currently a Modern Music major at Kyunghee University. He is also one of the first Korean artists to appear on Chinese postage stamps.
Debut
Kyuhyun's first media appearance was mysterious and not acknowledged. He made his first appearance as a part of Super Junior in a news broadcast on May 23, 2006 when the group was introducing their comeback single, "U". Kyuhyun made his debut perforance on May 26, 2006 at SBS's I-Concert performing the new single "U", where it was also the group's first comeback performance as a permanent group. Towards the end of 2006, Kyuhyun, along with Yesung and Ryeowook, were placed in Super Junior's first subgroup, Super Junior-K.R.Y. The trio debuted in November 5, 2006 on KBS's Music Bank. In early 2008, Kyuhyun was placed in a third Super Junior subgroup, Super Junior-M. The subgroup specializes in singing Mandarin versions of Super Junior's Korean songs, bringing the K-pop influence over to the Chinese music industry. Super Junior-M is the first international music group in the Chinese music industry to have members of both Chinese and Korean descent. The seven-member group debuted in China on April 8, 2008 at the 8th Annual Music Chart Awards and with the release of their first single music video, "U".
April 19 car accident
In the early morning of April 19, 2007, just one month before Kyuhyun's first anniversary in Super Junior, Kyuhyun, along with Super Junior members Leeteuk, Shindong, Eunhyuk, and two managers were all hospitalized due to a car accident when returning from a recording of the radio program Super Junior Kiss the Radio. The driver lost control of the vehicle as the van flipped over on its right side. Kyuhyun, who was sitting behind the driver's seat when the accident occurred, was the most injured and had a fractured hip, pneumothorax from fractured ribs, and facial scratches and bruises. He was slipping in and out of consciousness, and was mute because of the shock. Kyuhyun had been in the ICU ever since the night of the accident, but after six days he was moved to a regular hospital room, unexpected of his fast recovery. Kyuhyun also did not need the respiratory machine anymore to support his breathing. Though it was said that he was only able to walk on his own one month after the accident. Kyuhyun was discharged on July 5, 2007 after 78 days.
Don't Don comeback
With the announcements of Super Junior's second album release in September, it was announced that Kyuhyun would make this comeback along with the rest of the members. Kyuhyun gave his first comeback performance after the car accident in April on September 21, 2007, performing the new promo-single, "Don't Don." However, Kyuhyun was still recovering from the injuries and was unable to participate in Super Junior's second album activities throughout the rest of the year.
Kyuhyun made his comeback variety show appearance on SBS's Star King with the other eleven members of Super Junior but with the absence of Kim Kibum on October 13, 2007. In the show he performed a duet, "A Whole New World", with the Filipina singer, Charice Pempengco.
The 12th Member - The Killer Smile Kibum
Kim Kibum (born August 21, 1987), also credited as Kibum, is a Korean actor, singer, dancer, and the second youngest member of Super Junior. He made his debut in the Korean television drama, April Kiss in 2004. Although debuted as an actor, he achieved higher results as a singer after his music debut with Super Junior in 2005.
Kibum was born in Seoul, South Korea. He has a younger sister, Kim Sunyoung. He is also the cousin of famous actor and model, Shin Dongwook. At the age of ten, he moved to Los Angeles, California, United States where he attended his high school years at Santa Monica High School.
In 2002, he was discovered by a talent agent from South Korea and was recommended to audition for the Starlight Casting System, a casting system organized by South Korea's largest entertainment company and label SM Entertainment, and also the home of top Korean pop acts like BoA and TVXQ. Kibum soon signed a contract with SM Entertainment and became their official trainee, being trained in areas of singing, acting, dancing, and other performing talents such as hosting and modeling. He placed particularly strong efforts in acting, as he explained that he is most interested in that area. Although he resided in Seoul at the time, he constantly returned to Los Angeles to visit his family and to attend short school sessions.
2005–present: Super Junior
In early 2005, Kibum's talent agency released an official announcement that Kibum would make a second debut as a singer. Along with eleven other members, Kibum with Super Junior 05, Super Junior's first generation, debuted on November 6, 2005 on SBS's Popular Songs, performing the group's first single "TWINS (Knock Out)." The group released their full studio album a month later, and the album debuted as #3 on the monthly MIAK K-pop album charts.[3] As the group's second promotional single, "Miracle", came to an end, his talent agency was about to recruit new members for the next Super Junior generation, Super Junior 06, planning to replace Kibum with a new member. However, plans changed when the company added in a thirteenth member, Kyuhyun, and the company declared that future Super Junior generations were rumors. The group dropped the suffix "05" and became officially Super Junior. The new group hit big after they released their first CD single "U" the following summer in 2006, which became Super Junior's most successful single in the music charts, leading Super Junior to set #1 records in their music career since then.
Kibum placed aside his acting career and was active as a member of Super Junior, especially during promotions for the group's second album Don't Don in the fall of 2007 and Super Junior's first concert tour in early 2008. Don't Don became Super Junior's best-selling album and Korea's second best-selling album of the year, while Super Show's live concert album became a record success in South Korea, Thailand, and Taiwan.
Kibum is known for his English rapping ability in the group and remains as one of the lead rappers of Super Junior. Kibum also actively appears on variety shows unlike some of the group's other members. Kibum makes frequent appearances on Love Letter and other popular South Korean variety programs, promoting the group's music and product. Even after both debuts Kibum continued to be a popular symbol for endorsements, being an endorser of many items in South Korea. Kibum was picked as the co-presenter of Thailand's 12 Plus Powder along with the primary presenter, bandmate Choi Siwon, in early 2008. However, the co-presenter was switched to bandmate Donghae for another product of 12 Plus - "roll-on".
The 11th Member - Ryeowook Imnida
Kim Ryeowook (born June 21, 1987), more commonly credited as Ryeowook, is a Korean singer, dancer, occasional actor, and the third youngest member of Super Junior. He is recognized by his fellow members as the "eternal magnae" (eternal youngest) of the group, as well as one of the three most vocally powerful in the group (Super Junior-K.R.Y.). Even before Kyuhyun's addition to the group in May 2006, Ryeowook commonly called himself the youngest despite being a few months older than Kibum. Ryeowook is currently studying at Inha University. He is also one of the first Korean artists to appear on Chinese postage stamps.
Acting
Ryeowook made his acting debut in the film, Attack on the Pin-Up Boys, a high-school comedy/mystery film, in which he plays the eccentric vice president of the student council. Ryeowook's acting gained positive feedback from critics and he was nominated Best Supporting Actor and Best Comedic Performance at the Korean Movie Awards.
The 10th Member - Charming Siwon
Choi Siwon (born February 10, 1987 (real birthday April 7 1987)), also credited as Siwon, is an actor, singer, dancer and a member of Korean boy band Super Junior. Choi's breakthrough performance was in the 2006 Hong Kong historical action drama film, A Battle of Wits, where he plays the young prince, Liang Shi. He is also one of the first Korean artists to be on Chinese postage stamps.
Although initially trained to be a singer, Choi has made many appearances in dramas. He made his first official drama appearance on KBS's 18 vs. 29 in 2005, playing the role of young Kang Bong-man. He later joined the cast for the Korean drama mini-series Spring Waltz in 2006. Choi's first lead role was in the mini-drama, Legend of Hyang Dan (향단전), released on

Choi was chosen to be part of the Hong Kong epic film A Battle of Wits acting alongside Hong Kong actor and singer Andy Lau. A Battle of Wits is a big budget film with joint collaboration from South Korea, China, and Japan, and was released in China and Hong Kong on November 23, 2006. The film was released in Korea in early 2007. Choi has promoted the movie in China with a short tour of four cities at the end of November. Choi also received praises from co-star Lau, stating that Choi is a wonderful actor and is a good example that can be set for young Hong Kong idols.
2007: Attack on the Pin-Up Boys
- Further information: Attack on the Pin-Up Boys
Half a year after the release of A Battle of Wits, Choi's second silver-screen appearance was in Attack on the Pin-Up Boys, a 2008 high school Korean film that starred all members of Super Junior except Leeteuk and Kyuhyun. He played the lead role of a controlling and severe class president who was one of the popular possible subjects of being attacked by mysterious forces. Despite positive critical ratings, that film did not do well in the box-office, but all four versions of the film's DVD were all sold out and broke chart records.
Other works
Acting alongside Yoo Jitae, Lee Yeonhee, and Chae Jung-an, Choi was offered a lead role in the upcoming 2008 Korean language film, "Sun Jung Manhwa", who was to play a high school student falling in love with a woman much older than himself. However, Choi turned down the offer to work on his music career in China with Super Junior-M; the role was given to bandmate Kang-in instead.
Choi continued his education after his debut with Super Junior in 2005. He graduated from Hyun Dae High School in February 2006 and later went on to attend Inha University. Always been fascinated with Chinese language and culture, his company arranged him to travel to Beijing, China in 2004 to learn about the country's language and history and stayed there for three months before his return to Korea to prepare for his debut in Super Junior a year later.
Choi is also a drummer, having performed with his senior labelmates, TRAX in September 2006 on SBS's music show Popular Songs due to the fact that their drummer, Rose, had left the band. He is skilled in Taekwondo and became the youngest in Korea holding the fourth rank in the black belt.
The 9th Member - Cute Kid Donghae
Lee Donghae (born October 15, 1986), more commonly credited as Donghae, is a singer, dancer, occasional actor, and a member of Korean boy band Super Junior. He is seen as one of the four lead dancers of Super Junior. He currently attends Myongji University. He is also one of the first Korean artists to appear on Chinese postage stamps.
Acting
Since his debut, Lee has made frequent appearances in Super Junior's reality and variety shows, such as M.NET's Mystery 6 (in which Super Junior acts a ghost story and Donghae is the main character); SBS's Super Junior Full House and Exploration of the Human Body, and M.NET's Super Summer. Lee has also been an active guest on KBS's Star Golden Bell and has been a frequent dancer for Super Junior performances in other variety shows such as SBS's Love Letter and X-Man. Lee debuted as an actor in 2007 when Super Junior's debut mystery film, Attack on the Pin-Up Boys, was released in over four hundred cinemas in South Korea, which Donghae was featured as the lead supporting role. He starred as a classmate and close friend of Kim Kibum, a high school student who investigates the "mysterious attacks" on the most handsome boys in various high schools in the town. Lee also performs key roles in other music videos, such as in BoA's "Key of Heart"and Girls' Generation's "Kissing You". Donghae also performed in CF's which made the public learn more about his charismatic self.
The 8th Member - Playful Eunhyuk
Lee Hyukjae (born April 4, 1986), better known by his stage name Eunhyuk, is a singer-songwriter, entertainer, and a member of Korean boy band Super Junior. He used a stage name due to a conflict with another celebrity, Lee Hyukjae, a famous comedian who shares the same name. He is talented in areas of both rap and dance, as he is often seen performing solo dances in the group's live performances and music videos. His position in Super Junior is the lead rapper, combining bubblegum pop lyrics with his quick and unique voice tone. He is seen as one of the four lead dancers of Super Junior.
Lyricist
Eunhyuk has been an active lyricist and wrote rap lyrics for Super Junior's first and second albums. The rap lyrics to "Show Me Your Love" from the winter single between Super Junior and TVXQ was written by him, along with Heechul and Shindong. He also wrote the rap in Super Junior's first CD single "U" and said that it was written for the fans. Thereafter, Eunhyuk became one of Super Junior's main rap lyricists, being a main contributor in the group's rap lyrics for their second album, Don't Don. Eunhyuk is also one of the choreographers for group dances.
MC and DJ career
Since August 21, 2006, Eunhyuk has been the DJ with Leeteuk for 'KBS's Super Junior Kiss the Radio. In early 2007, Eunhyuk replaced Kang-in's place as MC for M.NET's M!Countdown, hosting along with Super Junior members Leeteuk and Shindong. However, due to concert tour schedules and preparations for a new album, Eunhyuk, Leeteuk, and Shindong decided to leave their MC seats, their last day on March 27, 2008.
On April 19, 2007, Eunhyuk, with bandmates Leeteuk, Shindong, Kyuhyun, and two managers, were involved in a major car accident that had attracted media attention for weeks. Unlike Leeteuk and Kyuhyun, whose injuries were more serious and were kept in the hospital for several months, Eunhyuk and Shindong suffered only minor injuries and were discharged from the hospital on April 23, 2007.The 7th Member - The Sweet Pumpkin Sungmin
Lee Sungmin (born January 1, 1986), more commonly credited as Sungmin, is a singer, dancer, actor, former DJ, and a member of Korean boy band Super Junior. He was a regular DJ of Reckless Radio and is one of the two members in Super Junior who performs Chinese martial arts, the other being Han Geng. He currently attends Seoul Institute of the Arts, majoring in Broadcasting and Television Entertainment.
Television and film
Similar to bandmates Heechul and Kibum, Sungmin made his first television appearance as an actor before his debut with Super Junior. In August 2005 he appeared briefly in the MBC drama, Sea of Sisters. A year later Sungmin appeared in the SBS Banjun Theatre drama Finding Lost Time as a guest star acting alongside TVXQ's Micky Yoochun. His first big-scale film was Attack on the Pin-Up Boys, an SM Pictures production that starred all Super Junior members except Kyuhyun. He played the role of a pretty schoolboy who later got attacked by an unknown criminal. Despite positive critical ratings, that film did not do well in the box-office, but all four versions of the film's DVD were all sold out and broke chart records.
DJ career
Sungmin replaced bandmate Kang-in as one of the key DJs of Reckless Radio and was hosting it with Sooyoung of Girls' Generation in 2007. On February 3, 2008, Sunny, also a member of Girls' Generation, replaced Sooyoung.
Sungmin also speak some Japansese as seen in Super Junior's documentary about their fan meeting in Japan on August 2008.
The 6th Member - Shindong
Shin Donghee (born September 28, 1985), better known by his stage name Shindong, is a singer, entertainer, and a member of Korean boy band Super Junior. In the past Shindong has been criticized for his large size, which contradicts many slim Korean idols. Despite his larger appearance, Shindong is known to be one of the four lead dancers and the group's dance choreographer, creating dances for the bandmates whenever they make dance performances. Shindong is also the rapper of the group and co-writes rap lyrics with the rest of his bandmates. He is also Super Junior's main visual gag performer.
On April 19, 2007, Shindong, with fellow members Leeteuk, Eunhyuk, Kyuhyun, and two managers, were involved in a major car accident that had attracted media attention for months. Unlike Leeteuk and Kyuhyun, who were seriously injured and were kept in the hospital for several months, Shindong and Eunhyuk suffered only minor injuries and were discharged from the hospital on April 23, 2007.
In 2008, Shindong was rumored to be dating Lim Irang, a childhood friend, after they were caught coming out of a movie theater together. However both parties denied and they insisted that they remain in a very close brother-sister relationship. The 5th Member - Kangin
Kim Youngwoon (born January 17, 1985), better known by his stage name Kang-in, is a singer, entertainer, and a member of Korean boy band Super Junior. He was one of the three MC's for M.NET's M!Countdown along with bandmates Leeteuk and Shindong before he was replaced by Eunhyuk. He was also a former DJ for Reckless Radio where Super Junior members often visited as guests, but is now replaced by bandmate Sungmin. He is currently a DJ for MBC's Good Friend Radio with Taeyeon of Girls' Generation.
A time-slot dispute occurred between SM Entertainment and MBC when SM insisted to have Kang-In stay on SBS's Explorers of the Human Body instead of MBC's Sunday Sunday Night Dong-An Club where Kang-in was a regular host. MBC decided to temporarily ban Super Junior from appearing in any future performances on MBC. Kang-in was replaced by T.O.P of Big Bang as the MC of Show! Music Core. Kang-in can also no longer host MBC variety shows Nothing is Impossible and Sunday Sunday Night Dong-An Club until the conflict is resolved. MBC also demanded to receive an apology from SM Entertainment if SM artists should continue to perform on shows hosted by the channel. After Kang-in left Nothing is Impossible and Sunday Sunday Night Dong-An Club, both shows cancelled due to low ratings. Kang-in's radio program with MBC, Good Friend Radio continues to air since it is not related to his work conflict. A week later, MBC announced that they invited Super Junior to film an exclusive MBC segment, "Giving Children a New Life" despite their previous decision to ban Super Junior. The entertainment director for MBC claimed that the ban on Super Junior was never official, but just a decision made by the programs' producers.
On December 16, 2008, it was officially announced that Kangin would be part of MBC's reality variety show We Got Married, partnered with actress Lee Yoon Ji.
The 4th Member - Yesung
Kim Jongwoon (born August 24, 1984), better known by his stage name Yesung, is a singer, former DJ, occasional actor, and a member of Korean boy band Super Junior.
2006–2007: DJ career
Since September 2006, Yesung had been a DJ for his own radio show, M.I.R.A.C.L.E for You, where members of Super Junior often appear as guests. However, before the radio show's first anniversary, Yesung had to end the program so he can further concentrate on his singing career. The last air date for the radio show was September 8, 2007.
2008: Solo Career
Yesung is the first member of Super Junior that contributed as a solo singer for a drama OST, Tazza, a highly rated drama which started on September 16, 2008. He sang "사랑참아프다" (T/N:Love really hurts). This ballad song has been consistently used during the drama itself. He has performed the song live several times, including in the 3rd Anniversary Party of Super Junior.
The 3rd Member - Hangeng@Hankyung
Han Geng (born February 9, 1984), better known in Korea as Hankyung, is a singer, dancer, actor, a member of the Korean boy band Super Junior, and the leader of Super Junior-M. He is the only Chinese member of Super Junior and is the first foreign artist to break into the Korean music industry. He is one of the two members in the group who frequently performs Chinese martial arts in Super Junior's dance routines, the other being Sungmin. He is also known for his dancing skills, particularly skillful in Chinese traditional dances from the fifty-six minority Chinese ethnic groups. He is seen as one of the four lead dancers of Super Junior and an important figure to further continue the Korean wave in China. Han was also a torch bearer for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, being the first boy band member to be chosen in history.
2008 Beijing Olympics torch bearer
On March 20, 2008, Han was announced to be one of the torch bearers for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, being the first boy band member to be chosen in history. Being active in a foreign country, Han has simultaneously promoted Chinese culture to Korea, gaining positive reviews from the judges. His torch relay was in the Beijing route on August 07, 2008. He was runner number 240.
Visa
Before debut, Han entered Korea with a vacation's visa and had to return to China every three months for a new one. After his debut in 2005, his company had him hold an E-6 (Entertainment Industry) passport for his longer stay. However, the passport strictly limited his promotional activities and appearances in various broadcasting corporations in Korea. According to law, a foreigner in Korea was only allowed to perform on three television stations, and he was allowed to perform on only KBS and SBS, as stated by SM founder Lee Soo Man during a Harvard Korean Wave conference in early 2007. Fellow labelmate, Zhang Liyin, was also under the same issue, also performing in Korea with an E-6 passport. Initially, the company did not know of the procedures, and had to be fined because of it. Before Han signed contracts with KBS and SBS, he performed on stage with a mask and hat on to hide his face on screen. Many thought Han was just a back-up dancer until three months later when bandmate Heechul finally revealed him to the media by publicly taking off his mask.
Despite visa restrictions, Han was seen performing with the rest of the members at the 2007 M.NET/KM Music Festival and the 2007 Golden Disk Awards, both award ceremonies that airs on the channels that Han was restricted to perform in. On August 1, 2008, the Korean government's law of restrictions on foreigners were lifted, and foreign entertainers in Korea are now allowed to perform in every station. However, Han is still unable to perform on MBC due to the channel's controversy with his company.
The 2nd Member - Heechul (Super Junior Cinderella)
Kim Heechul (born July 10, 1983), also credited as Heechul, is a singer, entertainer, and the second oldest member of Korean boy band Super Junior. He is known as Cinderella (신데렐라) by his game character, and they often refer to him as "Heenim" (희님)and also "Flower" (꽃). Likewise, Heechul calls his fans "Petals" (꽃잎).
Car accident
HeeChul suffered a major injury from a car accident that occurred on the night of August 10, 2006, when he was heading back to Seoul from Mokpo, where he went to attend fellow Super Junior member Donghae's father's funeral. The tires malfunctioned while his car attempted to switch lanes. From this accident, he fractured four to five places on his left leg including his femur, knee, and ankle which required a 6-hour surgery and sustained several other injuries including a tear to his tongue which required stitches. He was advised to stop all activities for a period of twelve weeks. He was released from the hospital on September 13, 2006 and received outpatient care. He returned to the hospital to have a second surgery to remove some of the iron rods in his leg on October 10, 2006. He returned to work briefly in late October to film the final three episodes of the MBC youth sitcom Rainbow Romance while still in a cast and in a wheelchair. It wasn't until late December when Heechul officially returned to individual activities such as variety show appearances and hosting appearances. In February 2007 he was able to perform on stage as a member of Super Junior-T. He started performing with Super Junior as a whole (whose dance routines are more strenuous than those of Super Junior-T) in late April and early May. Five rods remain in his legs, which required yet another surgery later on.
The Leader of Super Junior - Angel Without Wing Leeteuk
Park Jungsu (박정수, born July 1, 1983), better known by his stage name Leeteuk, is a singer, entertainer, and the oldest member and leader of the Korean boy band Super Junior.
April 19 car accident
Leeteuk became seriously injured in a car accident at the morning of April 19, 2007 when returning home after a recording of Super Junior Kiss the Radio. Along with Leeteuk, fellow members Shindong, Eunhyuk, Kyuhyun, and two managers also became victims. Although Shindong and Eunhyuk suffered minor injuries, Leeteuk and Kyuhyun sustained more serious injuries, which required for the two be kept in the hospital for several more days. Leeteuk had glass shards embedded into his back and above his eyes and had a successful surgery of 170 stitches in removing most of them. Leeteuk was discharged from the hospital on April 30, 2007. However, he may still need further surgeries to remove or minimize the scars. Due to Leeteuk's fast recovery, he was in time to do a last-minute performance in Super Junior's debut film, Attack on the Pin-Up Boys (2007), playing the panda mascot, who was originally played by Ryeowook.
Cyber controversy
Three months after the car accident on April 19, Leeteuk appeared as a guest on an episode of School of Rock on July 30, 2007. Leeteuk falsely stated that Korean figure skater, Kim Yu-Na refused his cyworld invitation. After the program aired, Leeteuk's fans posted over 7,000 comments on Kim's cyworld. Kim's fans counter-attacked Leeteuk's cyworld, posting hateful comments on his cyworld as well. A day later after the incident Kim publicly clarified that she never refused such an invitation. Ultimately, Leeteuk had to post an official apology for the incident and acknowledged that the refusal never occurred. Leeteuk explained that he wanted to make an interesting topic for the television program and did not expect such a negative consequence. A hearing was held to discuss the incident on August 9, 2007. The panel held in August 2007 discussed that it was hard to know whether a guest on a show is telling the truth or not, since Leeteuk did not tell the story during a live broadcast. Since the show did not verify the story before it was aired, the show has to take responsibility for the incident to have occurred. Charges were not pressed against Leeteuk. Regardless of the clashes, both Kim and Leeteuk became closer and they continued to work together to endorse uniforms for IVY Club.
